#Details

Following a massive debut at SXSW Sydney 2023, Split Works is back at BIGSOUND 2024 with an incredible lineup of top talent from South Korea, China, Malaysia, Taiwan. Headlining the showcase is South Korean shredder MEMI, who blasted audiences at SXSW Austin last year with her exceptional guitar skills, reminiscent of St. Vincent and Jack White. Joining her is Malaysian indie songstress Lunadira, who earned rave reviews at SXSW Sydney 2023 and with her COLOURS x STUDIO performance.

From China, we have Lur: bringing dystopian post-punk vibes in the great traditions of P.K.14, Snapline, and Re-Tros all the way from Xi’an. Shanghai’s Loft Beach will deliver their sunny, California-inspired sounds. Adding to the night, B E N N, a Taipei-based producer/DJ and founder of the avant-garde club label Over My Body, will bring unique Asian vibes blended with broken beats.

Also showcasing are Taiwanese alternative rock band WUTU, known for their mysterious, ritualistic soundscapes, and 1300, the Korean-Australian rap crew that’s been making waves across the scene.

Join us from 4:45 PM for drinks and nibbles before the performances kick off. This is your opportunity to discover new artists and the new scenes from across Asia. Expect a night of insanity and mind-melting performances.

Lunadira

The wide-eyed sweetness that oozed from her Tangerine EP has been sharpened by a personal reckoning that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lunadira emerged from it a woman still grappling with existential ponderings along with a heightened awareness of herself and her main mode of catharsis—songwriting.

1300

1300 are the boys from outer space. Hailing from Sydney, the Korean-Australian rap crew transcends genre and illuminates the voice of Asian artists whilst reshaping the Aussie hip-hop landscape. Composed of rappers rako, goyo, rapper-singer-dancer DALI HART, producer-singer Nerdie and producer pokari.sweat, the group initially came together following a chance encounter at a house party, after years spent orbiting around one another in Sydney’s small Korean-Australian music scene.
