In the late 1970s, Giuseppe ‘Jo’ Palumbo purchased a small Melbourne record store that he rebranded and grew into the iconic independent chain and label - Central Station Records. Partnering with Morgan Williams, Palumbo transformed the store from what was stocking rock and pop classics into a haven for dance music, supplying DJs with rare 12-inch imports and throwing massive parties bringing the genre into the mainstream.
When major record labels sued Central Station for importing music not locally available, Jo and Morgan fought a David and Goliath legal battle to change Australia’s restrictive copyright laws.
